If your business has annual revenue below AED 50 million, your e-invoicing timeline is:
- 31 March 2027: appoint an Accredited Service Provider (ASP)
- 1 July 2027: issue and receive e-invoices through the national system
Six months sounds like plenty of time. In practice, the ASP decision drives everything after it: how invoices leave your accounting system, what data you have to clean, and what it will cost every month. Starting the shortlist now leaves time to test before you commit.
What an ASP actually does
In the UAE's Peppol-based model, you never send an e-invoice straight to the FTA. Your ASP:
- Receives the invoice data from your accounting software or ERP
- Validates it against the UAE data rules
- Delivers it to your customer's ASP over the Peppol network
- Reports the invoice data to the Ministry of Finance and the FTA
- Receives invoices sent to you by your suppliers
Only providers accredited by the Ministry of Finance can do this, so the first check is simple: is the provider on the official list of accredited service providers?
Questions to ask every provider
Integration
- Does it connect directly to the accounting software you use today, or do you need a middleware or file upload?
- Can it handle credit notes, self-billed invoices and multi-currency invoices, not only standard tax invoices?
- How are rejected invoices shown to your team, and how are they fixed and resent?
Receiving
- Do incoming supplier e-invoices land in your accounting system automatically, or in a separate portal you have to check?
Data and storage
- Where are invoices stored, and does that meet the requirement to keep e-invoice records in the UAE?
- Can you export your full invoice history if you change provider later?
Cost
- Is pricing per invoice, per month, or tiered? What happens in a high-volume month?
- Are receiving, archiving and support included, or charged separately?
Support and continuity
- What is the support model during UAE business hours, especially around month end?
- What is the fallback if the service is unavailable on an invoicing deadline?
Use the time before 1 July 2027 well
Picking an ASP is only step one. Use the months after you sign to:
- Clean customer data: valid TRNs and Peppol identifiers for every B2B customer
- Map tax codes: standard, zero-rated, exempt and out-of-scope lines
- Review billing timing: e-invoices must be issued within 14 days of the taxable event
- Test with real scenarios: credit notes, discounts, exports and foreign-currency invoices
How Dreambooks helps
Dreambooks has UAE e-invoicing built into the accounting system, so invoices are sent and received from the same books you use for VAT and corporate tax. There is no separate portal to check and no file uploads between systems.
